Riflessi. Pistoletto, commissioned by and dedicated to Antonio Magnatta, for two amplified car suspensions, feedback system on metal plates and live electronics, in three movements, is inspired by three theoretical writings by Michelangelo Pistoletto. The first movement, Divisione e Moltiplicazione dello Specchio, explores the performative gestures on the suspensions - one of which acts as a sensor for the feedback system, refracting its sound in the metal plates. The second movement is inspired by the concept of the Silhouette, Pistoletto's famous mirror images. The sound of the feedback is in fact filtered by a rhythmic "silhouette", in which the theme of the third movement of Brahms' Third Symphony is translated into time ratios, and whose pitches act on the Ring Modulator that further filters the feedback. The third movement, Presente, Struttura per Chiacchierare in Piedi, is inspired by Pistoletto's installation "Structure for chatting standing", in which a bar table is stylized. In this movement the formal qualities of Hellucination I - Drowningirl, from An Index of Metals by Fausto Romitelli, are stylized. The Farey series reports, used by Romitelli to control FM, here are used to control the time ratios generated by the plates, inserted in the same formal cycles of Hellucination I - Drowningirl.
