Chi Him Chik is a multidisciplinary artist from Hong Kong who works between the areas of saxophone and computer performance, free improvisation, and composition. As an active performer, Chi Him has performed in several countries including Switzerland, Germany, China, and the United States, and has appeared in major conferences and events around the world like the World Saxophone Congress, North American Saxophone Alliance, and Darmstadt Summer Course.

Chi Him is the first Hong Kong saxophonist to advance into the semi-final round of the Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition. He is also the prizewinner of the 48thAnnual Bowling Green State University Competition in Music Performance, the 55thAnnual Lima Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition, and the 2015 and 2016 Douglas Wayland Chamber Music Competition.

As an advocate of new music, Chi Him has premiered more than twenty works by composers of diverse cultural backgrounds, including American composers Mikel Kuehn and James Mobberley, Japanese composer Dai Fujikura, Chinese composer Chen Yi, Thai composer Narong Prangcharoen, and more.He performed the world premiere of the completed version of Chen Yi’s Chinese Folk Dance Suite for Soprano Saxophone and Piano, as well as the United States orchestral premiere of Narong Prangcharoen’s saxophone concerto Maha Mantraswith the Bowling Green Philharmonia.

Chi Him earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from Bowling Green State University in the United States, under the instruction of Dr. John Sampen, and studied at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, the Conservatory of Music and Dance with Professor Zach Shemon. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Specialised Musical Performance (Improvisation) at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, Switzerland.
