about

Ali Aghili (b. 1995) is a composer, with a minor in Contemporary classical and minimal music composition. He started doing music by playing Setar when he was 13, he later on became interested in the electric guitars and started to self-study playing blues guitar. Aghili pursued music in academia, studying his bachelor in Persian music performance in Sepehr university, Esfahan, which he left before submitting his proposal. He received theoretical subjects in the university under the supervision of Saeed Honarmand, while learning composition and orchestration from Mohammad Hadi Ayabod who is a student of Christoff Pendersky. He has a few orchestral pieces, with the tastes of minimal and neo-classical music, also two quartets and a quintet with the titles of ‘Alef’ an ‘In the search of lost time’ which are yet not recorded.
He has been influenced by composers like Arvo Part, Alfred Garrievich Schnittke, Johnny Greenwood and Edgard Varèse.

His effort on composition is to eliminate the horizontal time-scale and to try to match the vertical line on the vertical aspect which is considered for the time. Throughout my pieces, I try to depart from the traditional linear and forward movements in time, and to develop a sense of relative timelessness.
