Germany 1968: in the young Federal Republic, thousands of students protest against old Nazi bigwigs in the halls of power, in cultural institutions and at universities, for a reorganization of society. The revolt causes an unprecedented political and cultural upheaval. Elisabeth Agnes Preis (*1936), however, decides to leave Germany for a life in the authoritarian regime of Iran under Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi. In August 1968, she travels by car with her husband Seyed Kazem Hanafi Yazdi (*1933) and their eight-year-old son Thomas from Wuppertal via St. Lorenz and Graz in Austria, Zagreb and Belgrade in Yugoslavia, Sofia in Bulgaria, Istanbul, Ankara, Samsun and Erzurum in Turkey via Tabriz and Karaj to Tehran. She opened a store for natural food and spent only vacations in Germany until 2002 when she passed away.

The sound artist Shaahin Peymani is the grandson of Elisabeth Agnes Preis. He has found her travel diary from August 1968, in which she describes the route, places of stay, encounters with long-distance drivers, “guest workers” and globetrotters, meals and German pop songs sung on the journey. His grandmother’s journey is the basis for an electroacoustic work that he developed prior to the festival together with cellist Judith Hamann and clarinetist Florian Bergmann and will premiere at Klangteppich IV. The piece that you hear on this compilation is taken from the opening moments of the performance.

Deutschland im Jahr 1968: In der jungen Bundesrepublik protestieren tausende Studendt:innen gegen die Generation ihrer Eltern, gegen alte Machtstrukturen, die immernoch von Alt-Nazis in Universitäten und kulturellen Institutionen aufrecht gehalten werden und für die Neuorganisation einer ganzen Gesellschaft. Diese Revolten beförderten eine bis dahin nie dagewesenen gesellschaftliche und kulturelle Umwälzung. Trotzdem entschied sich Elisabeth Agnes Preis (*1936) dazu, Deutschland zu verlassen und ein Leben in Iran unter dem autoritären Regime Sha Mohammed Reza Pahlavis zu führen. Im August 1968 reist sie mit ihrem Ehemann Seyed Kazem Hanafi Yazdi (*1933) und ihrem achtjährigen Sohn Thomas per Auto von Wuppertal über St. Lorenz und Graz in Österreich, Zagreb und Belgrad in Jugoslawien, Sofia in Bulgarien, Ankara in Istanbul, Samsun und Erzurum in der Türkei bis nach Tabriz, Karaj und Teheran in Iran. Sie eröffnete dort ein Lebensmittelgeschäft und verbrachte lediglich einige Aufenthalte in Deutschland bis zum Jahr 2002, in welchem sie verstarb.

Der Klang-Künstler Shaahin Peymani ist der Enkel von Elisabeth Agnes Preis. Er fand das Reisetagebuch seiner Großmutter aus dem Jahr 1968, in welchem sie ihre Route, Aufenthaltsorte und Aufeinandertreffen mit anderen Reisenden beschreibt: von Gastarbeitern und Globetrottern, Essen und dem Singen von deutsche Popsongs unterwegs.
Die Reise seiner Großmutter ist die Basis für sein elektroakustisches Werk, das er bereits vor dem Festival zusammen mit der Cellistin Judith Hamann und dem Klarinettisten Florian Bergmann entwickelt hat und seine Premiere im Kontext von Klagteppich IV hatte. Das Stück, welches auf dieser Compilation zu hören ist, ist der Eröffnungssequenz dieser Performance entnommen.

در سال ۱۹۶۷ (۱۳۴۵ شمسی)، و در اوایل شکل‌گیری دولت فدرال آلمان، هزاران نفر از دانشجویان به منظور سازماندهی مجدد جامعه در برابر حضور نازی‌های سابق آلمان در دالان‌های قدرت، موسسات فرهنگی و دانشگاه‌ها به اعتراض پرداختند. به موجب آن خیزش، تحولات بی‌سابقه‌ی سیاسی و فرهنگی در کشور پدیدار شد. با این وجود، الیزابت اگنس پرایس (زاده‌ی سال ۱۹۳۶) در همان دوران آلمان را برای زندگی در ایران، که در آن زمان تحت حکومت رژیم تمامیت‌خواه پهلوی بود ترک می‌کند. او در ماه آگوست سال ۱۹۶۷ با خودرو و به همراه همسرش سید کاظم حنفی یزدی (زاده‌ی ۱۹۳۳) و فرزند پسر هشت-ساله‌ی خود توماس، از مسیر شهر های لورنز، گراتز اتریش، زاگرب و سپس بلگراد در یوگسلاوی، سوفیا در بلغارستان، آنکارا، سامسون و ارزروم ترکیه، و از راه داخلی تبریز به کرج، و سپس تهران نقل مکان کرد. او فروشگاهی برای فروش غذاهای طبیعی دایر کرد و تا پیش از درگذشت خود در سال ۲۰۰۲، تنها به صورت مقطعی به کشور آلمان باز می‌گشت.


شاهین پیمانی، هنرمند صدا و ایده‌پرداز این قطعه، نواده‌ی الیزابت اگنس پرایس است. او پس از یافتن خاطرات مادربزرگ خود از این سفر، به اطلاعاتی درباره‌ی مسیرها، فضاهای اقامت، برخورد با رانندگان مسیرهای طولانی ترانزیت، «کارگران میهمان» ، افراد جهان‌گرد، و موسیقی عامه‌پسند آلمان دست پیدا کرد. مهاجرت مادربزرگ این هنرمند مبنای یک قطعه موسیقی الکتروآکوستیک است که توسط پیمانی با همکاری یودیت هامان نوازنده ویولن سل و فلورین برگمن نوازنده کلارینت ساخته و پرداخته و برای اولین بار در چهارمین جشنواره «فرشی از آوا» اجرا شده است. قطعه‌ای که این گردآوری می‌شنوید شامل گزیده‌ای از بخش آغازین این اجرا است.
