from Noise à Noise 23: Noise vs. Silence (Vol. I-IV), released January 17, 2023
It has been very complicated for me both to create a sound piece and to write these lines. What can I, a mestizo, brown man from Mexico, say with respect to the great and strong demonstrations that are happening in Iran? Of cultures, languages, religions, contexts that I hardly know?
However, from what I have been reading and listening lately, the reason for their struggles, their claims, their words, it seems to me that they are not very different from those that have taken place in our countries of Abya Yala in recent years. And one of the greatest forms of violence exercised, in all countries and regions of the world, has been against women.
My mother was beaten, my friends too, all discriminated against, all violated, just for being women.
And it is from there, from where I dare to write and contribute with a small piece, to the fight that from my country seems to be on the other side of the world, but that has managed to make their cries heard even here.
A show of support, as an ally, repeating Women, Life Freedom, as a mantra, as a manifesto, as a dream, as an idea, that encourages us to keep walking.
